Lady Bird
Feels almost uncomfortably personal, it looks like a coming of age film on the surface, but the more it goes on, the more it feels like someone quietly documenting the messiness of growing up especially that push and pull between wanting independence and still needing your family more than you admit. What makes it hurt (in a good way) is how real the conflicts feel. The arguments, the awkward friendships, the desire to escape your hometown, the way you think you know everything at 17 and then slowly realize you don't it all feels painfully accurate.
Saoirse ronan is incredible here. Lady Bird doesn’t feel like a “character,” she feels like a real person you might’ve known or even been. Flawed, emotional, stubborn, but still deeply human.
And the mother daughter relationship… yeah, that’s where it really gets you. It’s messy, loving, frustrating, and complicated in a way that doesn’t really get resolved neatly, which is exactly why it feels real.
