The Devil Wears Prada
One of those movies that gets better the more you think about it. On the surface it's a stylish fashion drama, but underneath it's really about ambition, identity, and the price of becoming the person everyone tells you to be. What I love most is that nobody is completely right or wrong. Andy's transformation is exciting to watch, but it's also uncomfortable because you slowly realize success and self-loss can look very similar. And Miranda? The older I get, the less I see her as a villain and the more I see her as a product of the world she dominates. Also, the "cerulean sweater" monologue deserves to be studied in marketing classes. One scene somehow explains consumer culture, status, and fashion economics better than entire lectures, and sorry but I spent half the movie being annoyed at andy's boyfriend. Andy finally gets a huge career opportunity and instead of supporting her, they act like she's personally betraying them. Like yes, she's changing, but the lack of understanding was driving me insane.
