Babylon
for the classic jokey one liner review, see exhibit a, b, c, d, and for the poor attempt of a sentimental and meaningful review in honor of this MAGICAL film, please see exhibit e
a) tag yourself i'm fay zhu asking if margot robbie swings both ways
b) some joke about brad pitt's italian in this movie as opposed to his italian in 'inglourious basterds' that i'm not clever enough to come up with it right now
c) if i had a nickel for every time margot robbie's character in a film wanted to get into the movie theater to watch a movie she was in but couldn't convince the woman at the counter that she was actually in the movie i'd have two nickels which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice right
d) margot robbie and diego calva in this... my bisexual awakening... my god. every time they interacted i suffered full body shudders akin to earthquakes of increasing intensity all the way up the richter scale. my eyes couldn't handle that much beauty at once. goodbye
e) films about films will always tear at my heartstrings. i love films that make me love films even more! i feel like every adjective in the book could be used to describe this one. it's dazzling, mesmerizing, staggering, thrilling, tremendous, astronomical, sentimental, affectionate, tender, witty and ridiculous. every theme just works so incredibly well together and the three hours feel no longer than one and a half. diego calva is absolutely remarkable as manny and a steady protagonist in this crazy and rapid film, that you grow attached to as every minute goes on. it's as if you can almost physically feel his enamourment of cinema through the screen, and then you fall every bit in love with it as he does. though the third act has its flaws and could've been executed less poorly, i don't care! it still works for me! the moon isn't always full okay but it's always pretty! i acknowledge the criticism and understand some of it but even so! how could you call this film anything short of a masterpiece? the cinematography, the score, the dialogue, the acting performances, the costumes, the makeup, the set design, the production, everything everything everything. te amo te amo te amo te amo
