Flushed Away
one of the best films to ever exist. a complex movie layered with themes, a playful, yet charming storyline touching on ideas such as poverty, classism, and genocide (mousekind). a movie that makes you fall in love with underground london, the melting pot of mousekind, a bustling city that practically invites you on screen. this movie displays mice as they should be displayed: charming, handsome, a little awkward, well dressed, and the man of my dreams. this movie challenges stigmas against rats, yet equally portrays them as such by comparing them to british people. the kittenish humour of flushed away (2006) blends seamlessly with the demoralizing and hopeless lone-rat, Roddy St. James of Kensington Ave, as he looks for companionship wherever he can find it. Roddy is thrusted into quest after quest, yet a quest he didn't know he was on.. was the quest for love. this movie is touchy, its edgy, its risky in the sense that it tackles higher world issues never seen on screen before, such as the denouncement of the monarchy in its prime (2006). never before have we seen a movie this timeless, a long-time favourite, a twist that gets you every time. its perfect, the love story that's embedded in Roddy's adventure, as Rita holds everything he never had, and is willing to give it to him. a natural charm hangs in the air, a sense of wonder and astoundment, the thrill of life seeping through the screen. its creative, never done before, who the fuck flushes a rat down a toilet? its heartwarming and undeniably one of the best movies of our time.
