The Substance

This is easily one of the goriest movies l've seen, and as much as I love horror, I felt like it pushed the limits. But the message of it? That's what really stuck with me. I knew a little of what the movie was going to be about before watching it from all the TikTok spoilers but I mostly went in blind. This movie says so much about how society and Hollywood treat women as they age. Watching her struggle with her self-worth was heartbreaking, especially when I just wanted her to see how beautiful she was and to go on that date. I wanted her to know she deserves to feel beautiful too. Honestly, this might be my favorite horror film of the year. It's powerful and unforgettable. The message sticks with you after the end.
