Amélie
There’s so much I forget about Amélie between viewings, simply because Jeunet made such a jam packed movie that it comes off as impressive that he could manage to put so much into only two hours of film. On the other hand, there’s so much I notice for the first time for the same reason. Along with it comes the line of questioning of the execution of the methods of Amélie Poulain herself, and yet what she does and what Jeunet tells us gives us the answers. She may be a woman who wants to help as many people in her life as she can, but she is still human; humans are the creatures who would electrocute a fellow human over something like tormenting a third human. We root for her. She can do no wrong, because she is one of us. We want to believe in people like her. And that is by far the biggest beauty in Jeunet’s opus.
