The Fly

i don’t even know what to say except this is a pretty perfect culmination of that period of cronenberg. both leads turn out incredible performances given the material, watching brundle’s total physical degradation over the back half is so upsetting visually and emotionally, i love this freakin thing! I saw the last ten minutes on like, AMC some October when I was 9 or 10 and remember being so taken by the effects of brundlefly falling apart in the last sequence. I think it might even transcend The Thing in that it manages to render an ultimate sense of humanity through its body horror transformation and through its practical effects while The Thing more or less carries a more abjectly painful sense of transformation. I dunno I don’t need to compare the two really but they’re both body horrors that truly changed my life and I’m glad to be revisiting to clarify that yes this thing is still perfect
