Dune: Part Two
Boy did this live up to the hype. It was intense, stunning, and larger-than-life in all ways possible. I could not have been more impressed with the performance of all. I felt immersed in the sands of Arakkis.
What makes this film great is how Denis Villeneuve made this into a cinematic marvel. It was not built through dialogue or extensive backstories. You are drawn into the world through panning shots that just take your breath away and are the reason you go to the theatre.
(Quick note: make sure you try and see this in some form of premium format, IMAX or Dolby. The soundtrack alone is worth the extra price of admission)
The downside for me is the early half of the movie was giving me the same feelings I had towards the first Dune. It is slow. And I understand that science fiction is all about world-building, but 2:45 min run times do not need to be made to feel longer. That being said the climax of the movie is well worth it and the slow setup built up to it just beautifully so please take the downside with a grain of sand.
I am certain I could continue to gush over this film and details that I noticed in this film but I am slightly sleep-deprived and didn't get out of the movie until 2 am so I will leave it as this for now. I am currently planning on seeing it again soon, so I hope to capture even more in my next review. I feel like I will have so much more to say with a clearer mind.
