MoonlightKris9.9· February 28, 2025FollowSo I’ve had time to think about it and this film to me is about losses and Identity. During this story we see losses for Chiron like Juan and his own mother (due to drug) at least during his childhood and those have an effect of him obviously but I think losses that aren’t talked about Kevin and his childhood don’t get me wrong he had a childhood but one that had to be fearful at school for something he couldn’t control and then coming home to a mom who is a drug addict is hard especially when you deal with outburst and rage from someone who is supposed to protect you from those things. If it weren’t for Theresa and Juan I can’t imagine what would’ve happened to Chiron. With all these losses this is where we see all the struggle with himself and Identity. After having to move to GA and being able to have a fresh start and make a new image for himself he goes for the only positive male figure in his life someone he thought did right and was “tough” which is Juan. As much as Chiron might think that’s who he truly is he honestly imo it feels that way because he never talked to anyone about his losses, his sexuality, even his general feelings. This is years of bottled up emotions and not knowing how to express himself. Ik Im saying all things that cinephiles have already explained at a much more coherent level than me but I just had to write about this film I’m still thinking about it now and I’m at work rn this film and beautiful I’m so glad I finally got to watch this film and I will continue to watch it!CommentsSign in to react and join the conversation.Sign inGet the appSee all Kris' reviews for Moonlight (2)First watch9.9February 27, 2025Rewatch 19.9February 28, 2025
