Aatmapamphlet
"who are dalits?" "you are!" "b.c.?" "he is!" "and mahars (untouchables)?" "him only!" "and buddhists?" "these people only!" damn, y'all got four titles and we have only one."
somewhere, someone woke up one day and decided one child would grow up with dignity while another would spend generations fighting to be seen as human. one could drink water straight from the glass while another became untouchable. it felt like heaven seeing dr babasaheb ambedkar's frame worshipped like god by the people who were never allowed to stand before theirs because someone else decided who could enter a mandir. there's a moment where the dalit boys have to pay lesser school fees than the upper caste boys and one of them complains, "why do they get to pay less?" that's the thing about privilege, it has existed for so long that the smallest attempt at justice starts looking like discrimination.and then that woman, standing outside in the pouring rain while her husband sat inside the warm house drinking alcohol, until she came across savitribai phule. my lady became the first educated person in the family, only for decades later her son to become just like his father. trust i laughed and cried so much. ashish bende is a genius, and oh dear, how quietly, how truthfully he loved her. i loved every second of it. i love you marathi cinema☹️😣
