The Elephant Man
“My life is full because I know I am loved.”
“I am not an elephant! I am not an animal! I am a human being! I am a man!”
I’m broken man. This movie has left me shocked, surprised, and sad.
Does this make me a lynchian?? I think this does.
I genuinely believe this to be an essential viewing for everybody. This is one of the most important pieces of art ever created. Lynch shows us that he can make a film with many emotions.
The film introduces us to a man named John Merrick. A man being used like a pet in a carnival show, his nickname being “the elephant man.” This film is based on a true story and that just makes it even more sad. This man existed and man was cruel to him.
Why is mankind so cruel? Why is it in our nature to judge and to hate. I believe that’s the question posed throughout the film.
John is a man with a big and kind heart. Yet he was treated like trash his entire life. Once he feels loved, we really get to know him.
I don’t know what to say about this tbh. I’m honestly left speechless. One of the most beautiful and heartbreaking stories ever told. David lynch you are the goat.
Speechless, I could barely find any words for this review but I tried.
