Mulholland Drive
I am so confused as to why I feel so compelled to give this five stars. I don’t know why it deserves five stars but it does. This had been on my list for so long and I had been putting it off for so long purely because of its status as one of the first movies to come to mind when picturing that obnoxious film bro who pretends to understand “complex” movies. Having watched this, I see why.
I don’t know what the fuck just happened, I don’t understand the story (maybe I will on rewatch), I managed to confuse multiple characters multiple times, and I sat the whole time in a state of perplextion, yet this just hit me in such a strange way that makes me feel like this is a perfect movie. It had such an uncomfortable tone, yet in a weirdly good way, and it just felt like such a MOVIE movie - like this was what it was meant to be.
I think I might’ve just been hypnotised into thinking I enjoyed this. At this point Im willing to believe David Lynch wasn’t birthed like a normal human but hatched from an egg, and the egg wasn’t laid by a creature but by the concept of fear. I would be no less confused at that being a fact than I would be at having watched this movie.
