The Princess Bride

Having grown up with movies being woven with references to older movies has ruined many movies for me. It lessened the impact of the second Star Wars, it made Indiana Jones seem like it was unoriginal and made the Matrix look like a reproduction of concepts I already knew, even despite the fact that those were where all the references had originated. I’m astonished at how, with so so so many references being imprinted into my mind from this movie, the first time seeing it nearly 40 years after its release, it remained as amazing as it must’ve been to everyone who grew up with it. So fun. So awesome. Such great writing. So many things that I recognised from pop culture but weren’t ruined by that because they were all just so awesome. An 80s classic by every definition of the term.
