Win It All
The fact this was shot on film really surprised me, for a Netflix film released in 2017. Exploring the mumblecore genre, I really had a feeling this would be a highly sanitized take on the conventions of the genre but I couldn't have been more wrong. It is true this film escapes some of the tradition of mumblecore, but all of that makes this film feel more like a new classic than a netflix bastardization. Perhaps Jake Johnson's best performance in a role which while typical for him is really acted to it's peak. The stakes are really set and continuously working with the audience, particularly with the inclusion of a debt counter. During gambling scenes I really did feel a tenseness step in as I waited for money count to reappear on screen placing the audience in Eddie's shoes extraordinarily well.
