Wicked: For Good
ok i need to kill myself after this my life has now been lived. jonathan bailey the man that you are..
now look, i'll admit that this film is, objectively, not perfect. the story is undeniably a mess, michelle yeoh gives us quite a mediocre performance, the pacing is a little bit wonky and the cinematography and colour grading is still meh.. but the pros far outweigh the cons for me in this case, i can't help but absolutely adore the film for what it does amazingly. the performances and singing from cynthia erivo, ariana grande and jonathan bailey are nothing short of spectacular, the entirety of "no good deed" might be the most pants-shittingly enthralling moment i've ever had in a theater and "for good" genuinely nearly had me in tears. i certainly enjoyed myself a considerable amount more here than the first one. although i think the first one has a much more coherent story structure and better pacing, this film certainly builds upon the wizard of oz world much more and feels much more grandiose and bigger-scale than part one. i also feel this film has far better songs than part one. whilst these factors make me like wicked: for good much more in a subjective sense, through an objective lens i'd argue part one is a much more structurally sound film. regardless of all of my yapping i can confidently say that after this film, i have been changed for good.
