Hamnet
Soul crushing film.
What I find fascinating is that William Shakespeare's plays still connect to the people witnessing them now. Stories written almost 400 years ago still make people cry and laugh, that is the true power of art.
I had merchant of venice in my school syllabus and I hated it. I thought it was a waste of my time but one day we kind of had a play inside the classroom and students had to make groups and do an act. I decided to be shylock as he was the most interesting. After deciding to play a character and trying to practise my lines, I understood the real beauty of it.
Enough about Shakespeare but genuinely this movie is really good with generational performances from Jessie buckley (goin to win Oscar), Paul mescal (should win Oscar ) and jacobi lupe. Lot of ppl talk about the film being slow but I don't mind it at all and I actually feel this helped the film to be better.
A story about loss, grief, memory and the power of art.
Was almost about to shed tears when On the nature of daylight played. People still mourn the death of hamlet/hamnet to this day whenever they see the play and love how agnes understands this and laughs. People watching the play don't know her story but still shares her grief with them.
What more could you ask as an artist.
