Phantom Thread
wow PTA is so good at writing characters.
Reynolds is this obsessive perfectionist who is trying to hide his emotional vulnerability. He cant stand the loud sound of buttering toast or pouring tea at breakfast, and he gets visibly irritated when his routine is disturbed. Meanwhile, Alma is this quite meek girl, but she does things to get on his nerves, she intentionally makes loud noises while eating at breakfast and even after they get married. She wants him to stay vulnerable, so she deadass feeds him poisonous mushrooms. (I didnt understand, DID HE ENJOY IT?)
Vicky Krieps acted so well and pretty much matched Daniel Day Lewis idk. Her body language says everything about her character, like she nervously rubs her thumb over her nails and smiles whenever she asks a question. She never backs down "Perhaps I am looking for trouble" and keeps matching his energy. When they are having that surprise dinner, Alma doesnt have the right words to say, but she still never backs down.
The lighting and tension keep you glued for 2 hours, with that incredible score by Jonny Greenwood.
