TÁR
I love movies so much. Terrifying, surreal, brutalist. Crawls under your skin. An incredibly rich and enthralling character study. So many layers, symbols and sounds that beg to be deciphered. Adore how reserved and coy this is in its storytelling. I could talk about this for hours. Everything about it is perfect. Didn’t feel the runtime at all. So I take that back from my first watch. And the details were all a lot clearer this time around. One of those films where a second viewing feels almost essential. So underrated. Like Eddington, I think in 10 years we’ll look back at this as one of the best and most defining pieces of contemporary filmmaking, and we’ll all scratch our heads at, “how didn’t these films get any Oscars?” Few are so effective at capturing the modern zeitgeist, whilst also feeling so classic and timeless. Same goes for The Brutalist, which these two would make for a crazy (albeit very long) double feature, but at least The Brutalist got some recognition. That and, as I said before, it’s just really fucking good.
