Sicario
Look, simply put this movie rules.
Really glad I got to see this with no previous context in theaters when it came out. One of my most memorable moving going experiences.
Sheridan came in with a bang writing this, directing and writing wind river and hell or high water. It feels like one of those things where you’ve been working on a story your entire life and they’re just perfect. He’s clearly made a lot of money but it’s disappointing the TV stuff he puts out now.
Back to Sicario - Denis as we know now is an elite operator and elevates everything he touches. In fact he’s never made a bad movie.
Visually this movie is stunning. The score is incredible. Those long cords that play throughout just raise tensions to another level.
The format of this movie is perfect. We’re thrust into a world with no context and no idea what is going on seeing everything from the POV of Emily blunt who is in the same situation as us. Not entirely unique but it’s used masterfully here.
Round it out with elite performances from Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro.
This was my first introduction to Daniel Kaluuya as well. What a run, unfortunately he’s in a cult now.
Overall this movie is the a perfect example of every aspect of film making coming together to produce something great. Just don’t watch the sequel.
