Corpse Bride
Poem by urs truly
Am I always going to be the other woman? The woman no one wants?
You’ll choose me because you can’t have her. I am the one you settle for. You pick me because you know I care, yet you don’t care enough for me.
You’ll only keep chewing me up, until your lustfull stomach has had its fill.
You gave me hope, but a part of me knew it wouldn’t last forever. It never does. The cycle has been repeating again and again. I pushed the negative feelings deep into the corner of my mind as I wished and prayed for you to stay. I wanted you to be the one who stayed.
But you didn’t. Maybe I am the other woman…
When you noticed her, you were gone. You went off with her and let me rot like a corpse. I was left in the dust and the darkness of your shadow. I was left frozen in time as I waited on you to return.
I was like honey to your bitter mouth. Too sweet, so you spit me out.
You were the fire to my human flesh, always burning me by a mere touch. A touch I craved, though I knew it would only make me shrivel to ashes.
I wish I was a phoenix. To rise from those ashes of heartbreak and become strong once again.
But I am not a phoenix.
I am the other woman. I am bound to repeat the immortal cycle of pain and agony.
