Holy shit this movie was so so astounding I sobbed for half of it.
The performances from Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, and especially Hamnets actor, Jacobi Jupe were out of this world. I am shocked Paul Mescal did not get nominated for best supporting actor.
Jessie Buckleys performance felt so real, at times it didnt even feel like a movie it felt like I was intruding on someones life. After Hamnets death, her demeanor shifts completely and its amazing. She goes from this loving parent to almost distant. I adored the scene when Judith and Hamnet were born, aswell as the whole ending with the play. It just adds to how real she makes this movie feel.
Paul Mescal also shined in this movie, while he didnt have nearly as much time as Jessie Buckley he was still amazing. I loved the scene where hes standing out at the ocean, reciting “to be or not to be” aswell as early in the movie where he’s writing and has a breakdown.
Jacobi Jupe has my favorite scene in the entire movie, when he takes his sisters place and see’s the death world. He was such a good actor, its hard to believe this is 3rd performance.
The cinematography in this movie is just the type I love. The long, uncut shots of characters, once again that make you feel like you are watching people without their consent.
Overall this movie was so good.
Thank you for reading.
