Sentimental Value
How did it happen?
*
*
You turned out fine, and I became fucked up.
*
*
That’s not true.
*
*
Why didn’t our childhood ruin you?
*
*
It hasn’t always been easy for me.
*
*
But you’ve managed to make a family.
*
*
A home.
*
*
Yeah.
*
*
“There’s one major difference in the way we grew up.”
*
*
“I had you.”
*
*
“I know you think you’re incapable of caring, but you were there for me.”
*
*
When mom was down.
*
*
You washed my hair.
*
*
Combed it.
*
*
Got me to school.
*
*
I felt safe.
*
*
I love you.
That conversation between nora and agnes kinda reminds me a conversation between me and sister my ate tho. Idk why i felt more emotional than it was. She is always there for me in a emotional state way. She is there for me i think im grateful with that.
The ending wrecked me. Labi Siffre’s Cannock Chase is used perfectly, and the final minutes linger in the best way. The flashbacks are brief but powerful especially young Agnes filming the WWII scene. Stellan Skarsgård is phenomenal, turning what could’ve been an unbearable father into someone painfully human. Reinsve and Lilleaas have beautiful sister chemistry, and Lilleaas holds everything together without ever pushing for attention. That script scene with Nora hurts. Elle Fanning is also great never reduced to a stereotype, just someone deeply invested in her craft and slowly realizing the role isn’t hers anymore.
