Annihilation

I’ve heard overall mediocre reviews of this film, though it turned out to be a bit better than I expected. While I haven’t read its source material, this movie still dips its foot into the cosmic horror genre which the book explores heavily. I think the concept here is very interesting, especially to someone interested in biology. The film discusses concepts of alien organisms and sciences that are terrifying and quite possibly realistic in terms of their completely unexplainable nature, making the atmosphere a polarizing, fever dream-like experience. I did enjoy this film overall, though understand the common gripes relating to pacing and character development. There are also several plot points that are left unexplored, though this might be intentional as cosmic horror relies heavily on the unknown.
