Angel's Egg

Angel’s Egg is a piece that drowns the audience in so much delicious atmosphere that the narrative almost becomes a side dish. It’s harrowing, moody, and ethereal, with a planet that’s endlessly hypnotic, and one of the most beautiful art styles I’ve seen in an anime. Narratively, it’s deeply complex, and the film’s commentary on potential and free will are implied to be showing modern-day society through the perspective of our disappointed God. The depictions of pregnancy and miscarriage/abortion sent chills down my body and sent them deep within my core. This is such a special experience and I feel blessed to have experienced this euphoric dread in cinemas.
