Late Spring
Given the last couple movies I've watched, it makes sense that I should take a break and go for a more gentle and subtle movie about the emotions and relationships of everyday people.
There is no fantastic world here, but people here are very fully-developed and it feels as if you have just moved into their neighborhood. The shots are understated, static, often from a lower angle; it feels as if we are sitting with the characters rather than just watching them. While some movies go for striking shots that stun you, this one aims to make you forget there's a camera at all.
Late Spring may be a window into a world that no longer exists, and it certainly shows its age, but in many ways it's entirely timeless.
We've always been made of the same stuff.
