The Gold Rush

Up there with The Kid in terms of balancing a beautiful, tender story with very innovative and hilarious gags. City Lights may have been more "romantic" than this one and I do think back on it very fondly, but this is just SO heartwarming and full of childlike wonder that the romance here stirs the heart much more for me. The film stirs the imagination too, many sequences in here are incredibly clever and the choreography is just fantastic. This feels like what movies are about.
