Sinners
Hands down one of the most unique horror movies we’ve gotten in the past decade. You can tell a lot of soul went into making this. The film portrayed the strength that music and culture have on a society in such a compelling and surreal way. I’ve been in environments like The Juke growing up as a kid. Church was where I heard music the most and while I didn’t quite resonate with a lot of the messages of the songs (I didn’t understand them), I can distinctly remember the way it made me feel. Now that I’m older and more knowledgeable, the underlying messages of songs hidden behind chords and drums have become a lot clearer to me. And what I feel like this movie did was help me realize where my love for movies and music could’ve possibly come from and how music within my culture (more specifically blues music) has shaped not only the culture itself, but imbued it with strength to last for AGES.
Everyone’s acting in this movie was amazing (Hey Hailey…) and the direction this movie was taken in had me at the edge of my seat. Definitely in my top 3 best horror movies of the year (and we’re only 4 months in 💀💀)
