wow. this movie was so pure and beautiful.. i kept waiting for the plot to twist and find out what this feeling of something bad happening translates to. we werent meant to see what that plot twist was, but know. we were meant to completely engulf the raw emotions and ignore what caused them. thats what this movie is about. magnifying the meaning of emotions and not the words or actions behind them. absolutely perfect. the proximity you feel when you get intimate and close up scenes of them together makes it all the more empowering. it perfectly captured that lingering feeling of uneasiness. there were so many details in this movie that made me feel. one of them that stood out was when instead of correcting the teenager by saying “shes my daughter” he paused and said “im her dad” tears. the silence mixed with the visuals absolutely completed this movie. the way the movie carried the meaning of being a dad; protecting your child’s innocence and purity, and shielding them from what might hurt them even if it hurts you. tears just thinking about it.
we, as an audience, were all waiting for his death, but it wasn’t meant to be shown. it was meant to be understood. that something negative lingering in the atmosphere was intentional. it was to ensure the audience understood that something bad was bound to happen without having to show them in order to focus on the deeper meaning of the storyline.. grieving what hasn’t been lost yet, parent-child relationships, the loss of child innocence, the purity of love, and the complexity of understanding emotions.
