Malcolm X
This film is just so damn good. From the opening moments in which the American flag burns into an X to the powerful montage at the end, this movie is super monumental and chronicles the life of Malcolm X in such extraordinary ways. Denzel Washington delivers one of the GREATEST performances I have ever seen in my entire life. It’s a shame that he didn’t win Best Actor. I haven’t seen Al Pacino’s Oscar winning performance in Scent of a Woman quite yet, but I understand why the Academy gave him the award. He hadn’t won an Oscar yet and him winning was long overdue. Plus, Denzel had won an Oscar already. But still, the award should go to the best performance of the year and in my opinion, Denzel was severely snubbed. Anyway, at nearly three and a half hours long, this movie goes into such extensive detail about Malcolm X’s life and it’s powerful to say the very least. My favorite parts were definitely anytime Malcolm X was delivering a speech. The writing is just so strong and when you have a talent such as Denzel Washington delivering grandiose speeches whilst performing a larger than life figure, you just can’t look away. All in all, this is spectacular and I’m really loving Spike Lee’s movies, he is definitely becoming one of my favorite directors!!!!! By the way, I really loved seeing Nelson Mandela at the very end, it was a really nice touch.
