Scream
“It’s all a movie. It’s all one great big movie. Only you can’t pick your genre.”
I love this movie so much, it’s truly one of the greatest horror films ever made and reinvented the genre for the better. Leave it to none other than Wes Craven to create two of the most ICONIC horror franchises of all time. I mean come on, he came up with Freddy Krueger AND directed most of the Scream movies!!!!! I could not get enough of all of the horror references in this movie, it was simply overwhelming and made me super duper happy, I was nerding out. I also LOVEEEEEE it when Randy’s watching Halloween and Ghostface comes up right behind him whilst Randy is screaming at Jamie Lee Curtis to look behind her. I also really adore the music in this film, especially when Sidney’s walking around the house on the lookout for Ghostface and the music from Halloween is playing in the background. I just really love how Halloween is always in the background during the final sequence, it’s such a nice touch in my opinion. The third act is super fucking good and Stu’s house as the set-piece is one of the best ever, it’s choreographed superbly. That TV death scene near the end is pretty sick too. The cinematography is AWESOME, the acting is on another level (ESPECIALLY Matthew Lillard (I can’t stress enough how amazing he is in this), Skeet Ulrich, and Neve Campbell), the opening scene is SOOOOO FUCKING GOOOD (Drew Barrymore is SENSATIONAL!!!!), and the writing is to die for. Even though I already knew the twist and that it was coming, it’s always so fun watching the ending gradually unfold and to see the clues that Craven leaves behind. I also really like how he gives clues to people that aren’t even the killer, it’s just a brilliant way to throw the audience off!!!! The ending is definitely my favorite part, ITS SO FUCKING CRAZY AND OVERWHELMINGLY INSANE. Stu and Billy just kept on coming back and there was blood everywhere and things just kept on going wrong for them. Like honestly, Stu and Billy were so dumb near the end, they were quite frankly killing each other. And of course, I love the homage to A Nightmare on Elm Street in which a janitor, played by Wes Craven himself, is wearing the same sweater that Freddy Krueger wears!!!! All in all, this was such a great rewatch and definitely solidified my love for this film!!!!!!!
