Superman
Peak.
I am so ecstatically pleased about this. By far the best version of Superman, though I love Henry Caville. In this, he is such a pure version of the character, a symbol of hope, of humanity, and is also grounded and lovely.
David Corenswet did such a great job portraying the happy-go-lucky, hopeful, persistent, yet insecure character. As both Clark Kent and Superman he shone with charm, wit, and strength. I loved it.
However, Nicholas Holt also fucking KILLED IT as Lex. Top tier ragebait, top tear crashout, top tier aura farming. Just great. The actor did so good at portraying him as a smarmy envious little bastard.
The supporting cast was also great. My standouts of course were Lois Lane played by Rachel Brosnahan, and Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern. The latter contributed to a lot of my funniest moments.
In terms of the visuals, I thought the VFX were great in this. Clearly some practical stuff in there too. Really liked the way the flying was done - made it feel really fast. Some of the action was very reminiscent of Suicide Squad (2021), if you would like a comparison. I liked the colour grading too.
I think strangely one of my favourite moments in this is when Superman takes the time to carefully save a squirrel. Just a really good show of who this Superman is.
Overall, this film had a great story, great characters, and TONNES of aura-farming moments. Great start to the DCU James Gunn!
[Edit: this film gas meant so much to me in the following months. It is a 10 in my heart; perfect, not just excellent.]
Perfect - 10/10
