Ready Player One
No one could EVER make me hate this film no matter what happens. This is genuinely such a masterpiece and it gets SO much hate for NO good reason like hello. Buckle in guys this is gonna be a LONG one. (Also I'm a bit early but the oasis in this film was created in December 2025 so happy oasis creation month soon no way)
Although it's definitely exaggerated I do genuinely think in the future our world could look something like this, I do think it will get to a point where we are fully consumed by technology and have nothing better to do than experience things through a lens. I also just love the whole contrast between the oasis and the dystopian future that they live in.
I do also think the little dnd nerd in me is coming out with this film, it just gives me dnd vibes like I think a campaign based on this would be so cool but like omg guys I just love this film, it is SO underrated, the hate is NOT needed guys. There is not ONE complaint about this film. I just genuinely think my entire game nerd is coming out cuz the amount of references in this film is INSANE.
I also think the use of motion capture is so cleverly done. Like I think it's so cool they used it cuz it gives the vr feel more realistic rather than using cgi or animation where it won't look like actual people. It's also just such a good use, it's so clean and doesn't look fake.
I remember when I realised i-R0K had the same voice actor as Fred from Big Hero 6 it was genuinely like an epiphany in my little 9 year old brain. i-R0K is genuinely so me.
"Avatars are going to be on him like hoes on Santa."
Halliday is also a canon Billy Idol fan. Don't think I didn't see that CD sat on his desk. The music in this film is just genuinely so good, I can't name one bad song in it. This is the film that got me into Blue Monday.
I also think that this is such a good example of real world issues being fictionalised in a way that will help younger people understand consequences to actions and stuff with the loyalty centres and the entire thing about not letting people know who you are online and stuff.
The whole shining scene is so RAHHH like omg I just can't, this movie and it's Easter eggs are just so on my level like, only zombie scene I'll ever tolerate in film.
I also love how they take their trope of the technically female character being kidnapped but make it heroic rather than just the 'useless woman' trope. It's so much better that she sacrificed herself because she trusted Wade 😋
"Aech what's going on?"
"Oh I don't know I'm just practicing my mario kart, what do you think man?"
This film is just so funny and I don't know why, the humour is so witty and quick which is my humour.
No bc wade is so real for crying, I would be on the floor sobbing in a ball if that happened to me tf 😭
All in all guys, I just love this film, nothing can ever top this I don't think, I could go on and on about how much I love it
