Hamnet
Hmm I’m torn. There’s something not very engaging about a lot of this movie. My beef maybe lies in the pacing and maybe the lack of depth at times? It’s not a bad movie by any means, but something was kind of missing for a lot of it.
It’s still beautiful in its visuals and the Shakespeare family was very believable as a collective. Jessie Buckley is incredible (though occasionally over the top). Paul Mescal really shined in this for me as well.
I think what saves the entirety of this for me is watching the play through the eyes of Agnes and her grief. Seeing William’s story brought to life and using art as his outlet to express his deep sorrow was deeply moving. It’s probably the only part that brought me to tears where much of the rest did not (despite usually being a crier).
I think I’ll need to sit on that one for a bit! Gotta grapple with the feelings it brings up I suppose!
