Boyhood
"You know how everyone's always saying seize the moment? I don't know, I'm kind of thinking its the other way around. You know, like the moment seizes us."
I watched this a long time ago, at the time I just started using Letterboxd when I just used to give ratings and not reviews. This is literally a piece of art, to start. To take such a risk, to make something spanning 12 years, it is definitely worth an appreciation. This wasn't really a film, it was a journey, not very happening and not very interesting, but quite mundane. But never for a single frame did the thought of boring come to my mind. The thing is, being on a journey like this, you seek many things but it doesn't come directly to you by itself. But you work for it. And then comes a point where you realize that it is like this. Its very simplistic, and isn't always really happening. And these simplistic and transformative moments make up for the extraordinary journey we call life. The lullabies, the abuse, the first open up sex talk with your father, the hereditary gift from your Grandpa and so many other things with the ultimate teaching that everything's not under your control. The moment seizes you. The whole film tells you to seize the moment and then contradicts everything in the end. Because the protagonist realizes, and he understands that some things are meant to be carried out naturally. This film can be actually interpreted in numerous ways for specific moments, but the main moral is that life is made up from moments like these and you have to make the most out of it. The acting performance was stellar from everyone, the direction was interestingly done. It was actually visible how the progression of cameras happened out in the 21st century. Overall, it was a great film. This will make you think, and reflect. Definitely worth the experience.
