Nightcrawler
"I feel like grabbing you by your ears right now and screaming, "I'm not fucking interested!". Instead, I'm going to drive home and do some accounting."
Jake Gyllenhaal is a favourite actor of mine. I think this is his best performance till date. He completely embodies the character and doesn't let it wither away even for a second in the film. You can feel his psycheness (if that's a word) through the screen which is sometimes striking on the mind and haunting and creepy and uncomfortable as hell. His expressions and his movements are very much revealing and not revealing at the same time. Saying so much by saying nothing, if you know what I mean. About the plot, it's so much interesting and I don't think if this type of approach has been taken before in cinema history. It might seem like an overstatement but I mean it. The only film that comes to my mind when I talk about a very interesting plot is "Blow Out" by Brian DePalma. It revolves around a sound man who records different sounds in the open. It takes a very huge turn after that but in this film, it's more like of a character study and a very good one while maintaining a never boring and engaging and interesting as fuck plot. It's almost genius. About the other characters, Riz Ahmed did a good job but he wasn't able to match Jake on the screen in any way. But it was still well done. The writing was efficient and perfect. And that crazy mind of Jake really comes through to us through his dialogues which sometimes seem overwritten but that's the point of him coming off as a psycho. Overall, this rewatch was better than my first watch, and it's a very well done film. Definitely Worth your time. You'll enjoy the heck outta it.
Edit after Rewatch-
Definitely hit the same. The performances, the visuals, and the dialogues of this psycho. So good.
