Waves
Watching this film felt like looking at a Rothko painting. Overwhelmingly beautiful, every emotion coming and going in waves.
The use of colour, the soundtrack, the performances, all so gorgeous. Read a lot of mixed reviews on this, maybe it was throwing a lot at it, but at the same time being a teenager, family dynamics, grief, they are a lot. The hospital scenes, as someone who’s has experienced a parent with cancer, felt really close for me. That second half in particular, especially those scenes, were so delicately done yet didn't shy away from any ugliness.
I loved the contrast between the tension of the first half with the quiet stillness of the second, the circling shots and switches between wide and square screen added to the contrast. First film in a while that left me in pieces.
