Hamnet
This is a beautiful, emotional, and deeply devastating movie. Incredibly well-shot and set - The forest scenes especially are stunning and the dark scenes at home are still clearly visible, which just serves to highlight the performances. Across the board, Chloe Zhao is getting everyone to give this everything they have, but Jessie Buckley and Jacobi Jupe are especially outstanding.
What I found most interesting is how in-the-background Shakespeare’s profession is for most of the film. Obviously this is at least partly because the movie is about Agnes first and foremost, but I think it also helped give the final 20 minutes so much more emotional resonance. There’s a reveal during the play that essentially took my breath away - I will be thinking about it for a long time to come.
