Watchmen
The Watchmen book by Alan Moore is one of the best pieces of media I have ever consumed. So nuanced, so interesting, so beautifully drawn. So making adaptations of it is toooough. I do love the Zach Snyder Watchmen movie although it is a little “bro-ified.” I remember when the show came out, I saw a clip of the trailer on Instagram and was just immediately uninterested. In the last month or so, I think I must’ve seen some scene from it that made it look interesting so I bought it.
Now that’s how you adapt a story. I think it plays as a really cohesive story with the original and because it’s not tied to another movie or anything, it can just kinda do whatever it wants. It tackles a lot of trendy contemporary issues but with the characters (new and old) of the Watchmen world. I think some of it plays kind of cringe and dated because it’s extremely political, biased, and recent which is just kinda how those things go. What I like about the book is it shows more moral grey area and this makes it a lot more black and white which is honestly just a more boring and safe approach.
I was friggin shocked to see Tim Blake Nelson show up and he dang killed it.
And. And although not connected, I really think Jeremy Irons looked like Matthew Goode who played Ozymandias in the 2009 movie which was pretty cool.
