Superman
So funny story, I used to not be interested in superhero movies!
As a kid, the only superhero movie I had seen was Spider-Man in 2006 on a big inflatable screen at game farm park in Auburn, WA. Great movie, but I was 5, none of it registered for me.
The only movies I would watch were family movies. My dad wanted to show me The Dark Knight, but my mom thought it would be too violent. In 2012, I entered an online sweepstakes by hersheys for the avengers that required you to pick your favorite character. I picked Hawkeye because I thought that’s who Nick Fury was and that they called him Hawkeye because he has one eye. I cannot stress enough that I had zero connection with these movies.
One day in 2013, I decide to watch The Avengers on netflix. I loved it. I was opened up to a whole new world of movies to watch. I rented Captain America: The First Avenger and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on target ticket (targets online streaming library that shut down in 2015) and I loved them even more. After that, I would go to my dad’s house every saturday and we’d watch a marvel movie every weekend to catch up in time for Age of Ultron.
One night, my dad had to cancel, so my mom rented this movie. She was really excited to show it to me and expressed how she loved it as a teen when it first came out. So we sat on the couch and watched this.
I liked it 10+ years ago and I am very pleased to say I love it even more now!
It’s not perfect by any means and it is a bit dated, but I think that’s part of its charm. Holy shit, this movie has so much charm. I cried like 3 times, the joy I had watching this was that overwhelming. This is what Superman is supposed to be. I think Christopher Reeve’s performance is one of my all time favorites now. He’s literally Superman. Idk man this was something special, hence the long ass review, sorry.
