Perfect Blue
I love this movie so much. The editing! The writing! The visuals! The music! Everything!!! It’s insane to me it was Kon’s debut work. Watching this film knowing how it goes this time helped put into perspective some things I didn’t really understand or appreciate upon my first watch. It really does a wonderful job blurring the line between reality and imagination as the main character struggles to reconcile her current persona with her past one. I really don’t think this film would be done as well in live action, even if the genre that this film exists in seems to be a barrier for many people. Since watching this movie a few years back, I’ve been searching for the same feeling I had after my first watch. I haven’t found it yet, the closest I ever got being Eraserhead, but even that didn’t quite capture the same type of mind-fuckery Perfect Blue has.
5/5: Mima should’ve watched NetSmartzKids before logging onto the internet
