The Thing

This film has been on my radar for at least three years now, and I wish I had seen it sooner. It’s just so intentional! You can really tell that they thought out every choice they made. There was one moment in the film where I noticed something weird, and mentioned to my friend that what the character was doing made no sense and that he had to be The Thing. And I was right, which made me both proud of myself and impressed by the direction. I’m also a huge fan of the SFX and puppetry, holy crap it’s beautiful! And the hand-painted backdrops for the ship! It’s got such a palpable human touch to it that sells the movie further. Banger soundtrack as well. The characters are great if a little confusing at points. I loved their dynamics as they become more and more distrusting. I also liked the ending, because while no matter what the result is the same, there’s enough for you to theorize about to keep audiences talking about it for years! 5/5: This whole film would’ve been resolved sooner if they stuck to the rule of 3, but maybe that’s the camp counselor in me.
