Hamnet
Hamnet is a tale of grief, pure anguish and acceptance. The themes of this film highlight just how much we should really cherish and appreciate life and everyone around us. Chloe Zhao shapes all these emotions so meticulously and impeccably into a tight screenplay that doesn’t miss a moment to show the emotional moments of life, while capturing the joy and purity of the world too. Jessie Buckley gives an Oscar winning performance with the most realistic and gut wrenching displays, while Paul Mescal anchors the character of Shakespeare with the emotional weight yet having the wrong priorities, failing to balance art and life up until the end when he is able to convey every feeling he had built up. Hamnet is a devastating yet beautiful and tender masterpiece that allows the script to be bold while letting the words left unspoken say a thousand words too. One of the easiest 5 star films I will give.
