Nosferatu
I have been patiently waiting over a year for this—and finally I can say that I’ve seen it. I’m not sure where to start. There were only night showings at the theater I go to, so it’s the middle of the night as I’m writing. But I think it adds to the atmosphere in a way.
I have to agree that Lily-Rose Depp did wonderfully, especially when she’s having her episodes. Bill Skarsgard doesn’t sound or look like himself at all—it’s really amazing that it’s him playing Orlok. Really the entire cast did an amazing job— Hoult, Dafoe, Taylor-Johnson, Corrin, Ineson, etc. Everyone played their part well.
And of course cinematography was amazing, which is no surprise considering it’s an Eggers film. Certain shots looked like paintings; I think it really benefitted using natural/candle light to set the tone for scenes. Costume and sets were dreary and felt real and lived in. It’s an Eggers signature that persists through each of his films and which adds to the horror elements of his stories.
I think it was well worth the wait, especially being able to see it on IMAX. It seems Robert Eggers has done it again. Highly recommend, 10/10 Christmas movie!
