Anora

I have been waiting so long to be able to finally watch this movie, and it was amazing. Now I’ll be honest after watching it I wasn’t quite sure how to feel. At first it didn’t feel like it lived up to the hype that I gave it. But after thinking about it for a little while, I realized it actually did. The problem was is I went into it kind of wanting it to impress me so much that I would immediately think it’s the best of the year for me, and well this is a perfect movie that is so much fun and amazing, I personally still prefer 2 more movies this year. But that’s ok, I’m super happy that I finally got to watch this and that it was amazing, and who knows maybe after watching it again, I’ll think differently. I’ll be interested to see all the nominees for best actress come award season but I’m sure Mikey Madison will be up for all of them. She absolutely killed it, but honestly the entire cast did. I laughed a lot more than I would’ve ever thought I would’ve. This movie was hilarious. You can just tell Sean Baker is at another level compared to a lot of directors. To me I think this movie really shows that he completely understands his characters and knows how to make it clear to the audience who they are. For example Ivan flying around the bed and house when she first goes over there, shows how immature he is and is gonna be the rest of the movie.  I thought the ending was amazing, especially the part where Ani starts breaking down. To me it shows how sex workers (mainly women) are mistreated and looked down upon and so when they are shown love for more than just their bodies, it hits them like a train. Sometimes they don’t even recognize it, throughout the whole movie, Igor obviously cares for her, and she never really recognizes it. Once she finally does, her first instinct is to start having sex, and it’s actually heartbreaking because that isn’t necessary.  Absolutely amazing movie that I hope everyone goes too. I am excited to watch this again because it’s so much fun and I wouldn’t be mad if it won best picture.
