Sinners
Ryan Coogler is really proving a point that when a studio doesn’t interfere with the creators vision, you can create something incredibly special. Sinners is exactly that. Culturally rich story told through a plethora of different genres of filmmaking. That culture is also shown through the music which plays a huge role in this movie, I’ve seen full on musicals not be as alive as the musical scenes in this movie. That one scene (you’ll know it when you see it) really drives this point home.
The third act is truly a behemoth of a third act. So many things coming together for one beautiful ending. It’s perfectly shot, scored and acted and really brings all the emotions you’ve been feeling up to this point to the forefront.
I could go on all day about the technical aspects that are great in this movie as well as the performances, but here are a few things that really blew me away.
- Michael B Jordan
- Score
- lighting
- set design
If you have read this far, then clearly you’re interested. Do yourself a favour, don’t wait until it get’s to streaming, go to the theatre and really take this experience in the way it was meant to be taken in. It’s not every day, in this day and age that a movie like this is able to be made. Where so clearly everyone working on this project cares deeply about the finished product. PLEASE go to theatre to see this.
To end this lengthy review, there were so many scenes where I was smiling because of how much joy I was feeling watching this. Ryan Coogler is someone who will be heavily on the radar for me moving forward, and I really hope this movie creates some change in the way studios give freedom to the director’s and writers. It’s what movies need but more truthfully it’s what’s they deserve, because look at what it creates.
