The Florida Project
This was just truly amazing, is it wrong to say one of the best child performances ever? Because she truly killed it from start to finish. The best way I can describe this movie is that it's just beautiful. Every aspect of it, the filmmaking, the writing, the characters, the cinematography, the story. Everything is just top tier, and I enjoyed every second of it. I love what Moonee represents in this movie, being a beacon of happiness and adventure in a difficult time it's just amazing. As well as it shows how damaging DCFS can be on the kid's. Willem Defoes character I also really liked in this movie. His character is stuck in the middle of wanting to help them all but also has to do his job, this is shown perfectly with how much he smiles with the kids, and protecting them from the old dude, but then has to be the one to knock on the door and confront the parent's for doing something wrong. I also just know that when this came out there must've been a huge debate on whether or not Halley is a good or bad mom/parent. I feel like in the sense of caring for her daughter she is a very good parent because she openly loves her daughter very much. However she is definitely far from the right example that her daughter should be near. So it's kind of hard to say which is definitely a very common thing in those kinds of situations where people will do whatever it takes to have the money they need to support themselves and the ones they love. Overall a fantastic movie that I really really enjoyed, and now after finally watching my first Sean Baker film, I'm even more pumped for Anora. I just need that to come out already.
