Cats

Fascinating to see the bonus features on this disc filled with interviews conducted before the film was finished when everyone involved was convinced they were producing something great. Just incredible effusive praise heaped on every misbegotten decision that led to this nightmare. Nearly all of them very loudly changed their tune the second Cats was shown to an audience, so these pre-release interviews feel strikingly delusional. It's like watching news footage from the moments before the planes hit the towers on 9/11. The last gasps of a naivety that would soon vanish forever. The behind the scenes footage is genuinely mind-blowing. You could never guess from viewing the end product just how much work and skill went into making this. The cgi veneer that coats the movie completely obscures just how much of what you're seeing is actually practical effects and live performance. The memory of all that craftsmanship gone like tears in snot rolling off Jennifer Hudson's fur.
