Casino
i’m giving casino a solid 4.5/5. it’s 2025 and rewatching martin scorsese’s three-hour vegas epic just confirms it’s the most visually stunning, high-intensity mob movie ever made. it’s basically goodfellas but with more neon, more money, and way more desert burials.
robert de niro is absolute peak as sam 'ace' rothstein. he plays that obsessive, control-freak energy perfectly—seeing him manage the tangiers in those legendary pastel suits is a total vibe. but the real mvps are sharon stone and joe pesci. stone as ginger is a total masterclass; she brings this unhinged, tragic glamour that steals every scene she’s in. and joe pesci? he’s basically playing a supercharged version of tommy devito as nicky santoro. that vice scene is still one of the most visceral, 'balls-out' moments in cinema history.
the cinematography is a massive visual flex. the way robert richardson uses the bright, shimmering lights of the casino floor contrasted with the pitch-black violence of the desert looks insane in 4k. the soundtrack is also 10/10 vibes, using 60s and 70s rock to keep the pacing fast and loud despite the massive runtime.
the only reason it’s not a perfect 5 is that it can feel a bit repetitive if you've already seen goodfellas too many times. it hits some of the exact same story beats, and the ginger/ace relationship drama drags slightly in the middle of the third act.
overall, it’s a polished, brutal, and flawlessly executed ride. it’s pure 'main character' energy and a total modern classic. if you want to see scorsese go full-tilt in Vegas, this is the one
