Grease
i’m giving grease a solid 4.5/5. it’s 2024 and even after all these years, this movie is the ultimate high-energy flex. i went in thinking it was just some old musical my parents liked, but it’s actually a total vibe that captures that "last summer of freedom" energy perfectly.
john travolta is absolute peak as danny zuko. the man’s charisma is a total masterclass—that “greased lightnin’” sequence is a literal choreographic flex. then you have olivia newton-john as sandy, who brings that elite, wholesome energy before her absolute mic-drop transformation in the final scene. their chemistry is 10/10, and the soundtrack is packed with bangers like "you're the one that i want" that still go hard in 2024.
the aesthetic is a massive visual flex. the 1950s carnival vibes, the leather jackets, and the neon-lit diner look incredible in 4k. it’s got this stylized, hyper-real look that makes rydell high feel like the coolest place on earth. plus, the thunder road drag race adds some much-needed high-intensity stakes to the plot.
the only reason it’s not a perfect 5 is the messaging at the very end. the idea that you have to completely change who you are to get the guy is a bit of a mid-tier takeaway for 2024. also, some of the "teenagers" clearly look like they’re in their mid-30s, which is low-key hilarious but definitely breaks the immersion.
overall, it’s a bold, stylish, and viscerally fun ride. it’s pure "main character" energy and a total 9/10. if you want a no-thoughts-just-vibes movie night with actual bops, this is the one
