Knife+Heart
After his previous film "Les Rencontres d'Après Minuit" Yann Gonzalez comes back with a new film maybe a little bit wiser but much better mastered. A film that loses, experiments and dares the most advanced strangeness while managing to produce real emotions. In the manner of the underground new wave of the French cinema of these last years of which Yann Gonzalez is the primordial figure with Bertrand Mandico ("After Blue"), the film pays homage to the cinema bis, here more particularly to the Italian giallos, but "Un Couteau Dans Le Cœur" is not only a simple pastiche, it is a true film in its own right. A film with a devastating finale that manages to make us forget its simplicity and make us cry. An almost perfect film, a pearl, one of the best things to happen to French cinema in recent years.
